Jean Sundin

Jean Sundin is a founder and principal of Office for Visual Interaction Inc, a New York City-based firm specialized in architectural lighting design. Ms. Sundin’s detailed knowledge and expertise in the field of lighting have been developed over more than 20 years of work in the field. Major projects include illumination for the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, the United States Air Force Memorial overlooking Washington D.C., The New York Times Building in Manhattan, and development of the LED Streetlight for New York City.

Ms. Sundin is chairperson for the Professional Lighting Designers' Association’s Architectural Lighting Fundamentals committee, an initiative to establish benchmarks of knowledge for lighting education internationally. A professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers, Ms. Sundin co-authored the organization’s ‘Guidelines for Specification Integrity,’ used by lighting designers worldwide. She is a former board member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and a member of the US Green Building Council.

Ms. Sundin has lectured worldwide on her firm’s work, as well as on specification integrity and cost-tracking methods for lighting design. She has taught lighting courses for the Illuminating Engineering Society and was appointed a distinguished faculty member at Parsons School of Design in New York City. Her articles on lighting design have appeared in publications including Professional Lighting Design Magazine, A/L Magazine, LD+A, Buildings Magazine and others.

The quality of Ms. Sundin’s work has been recognized by the highest honors in international lighting competitions, recently receiving the GE ‘Edison Award’ and the Illuminating Engineering Society’s ‘International Award of Distinction’.
