Twin towns
Alingsås has vivid twin town relations with the other Nordic countries. The first twin town agreements were signed over 20 years ago and new agreements that implies even deeper cooperation were signed last year.
Twin-town collaboration comprises exchange preferably within the cultural and educational spheres. A big Nordic festival is held every odd year in one of the four Nordic municipalities: Alingsås, Tårnby, Skedsmo and Karis. Official delegations meet 1-2 times per year to lay down the guiding principles for the cooperation. An importanat contribution to the practical implementation of exchange activities is made by the Alingsås Nordic Association. Alingsås also has twinning relations, preferably in the educational sector, with Leisi in Estland, Mont de Marsan in France, Kartong in Gambia and Ochotal in Nicaragua.
